The Rings Are Not the Point
People keep asking what the rings are worth. Wrong question — but the right one took us a while to say out loud.
Somebody emailed asking whether a Legend Ring will appreciate in value, and whether we'd consider a certificate of authenticity. We understand the instinct. We also think it misses what's actually happening, so let's say the quiet part clearly.
The rings are worth almost nothing. Metal, craft, a serial number. You cannot sell one for more than a decent dinner, and if that ever stops being true we've failed at something important. What the ring is, is proof-of-journey: to hold one, you had to watch a film closely enough to decode it, plan a real trip, get yourself behind a Big Sur waterfall or down a Morro Bay sandspit, and look. The ring certifies the weeks around the finding, not the object found.
This is why future Traveler Rings will travel — finders logging them and rehiding them down the route, because the second finder's story doesn't subtract from the first's. It's why the digital rings hidden on this site unlock nothing but a badge. There is no marketplace. There is only the story you tell afterward, which is the one thing nobody can counterfeit.
Find one or don't. The trip either way was the treasure. The ring just makes it impossible to forget you took it.
