The first Legend ring: a silver band inlaid with twin channels of koa wood, split by a thin steel rail — the deck and the sea in one object. It crossed Morro Bay on a sailboat, came ashore on a surfboard, and was carried at a run down the sandspit to a lookout with water on both horizons.

From the maker's bench
Koa is a canoe wood — Hawaiians crossed oceans on it. Setting two channels of it into a silver band felt like the right way to mark a ring that had to earn its hiding place by boat, board, and barefoot miles. It is the only Legend ring in existence. There will be others, but never another first.

The placement sits outside all roped-off snowy plover nesting areas and requires no climbing. Reach the sandspit by paddle craft or the long walk from the south — never by swimming the harbor channel, which has commercial traffic and strong currents.
